The Men Who Stare at Goats is neither a true comedy or a drama or an adventure or anything easily put into a box of its own, its something that is based on a book that is based on some kind of reality. Supposedly. How much of that I can believe is debatable. It tell the story of so-called physic spies, men who were trained by the American army to get into the mind and win wars without any bloodshed. A noble cause but one in which, as we all know, simply doesn’t work. Ewan McGregor is the journalist who tries to find out what the truth is wherein he meets the like of George Clooney’s “Jedi master”, Jeff Bridges whacked out drug-addicted hippy soldier and Kevin Spacey.
Its entertaining and occasionally funny but without having a definite knowledge of what it all means its hard to really get into and the result is a movie that isn’t truly rewarding but will give you just a glimpse of a smile before you forget all about it.
